There has been a plan from the beginning

Created in the Maker’s Image

“I don’t believe in a God that allows suffering in the world”

“How can a good God allow bad things to happen?”

Those are some of the statements that I hear at times from people who don’t believe in God because a “good God wouldn’t allow evil in the world”. And honestly, during my walk with God I really wrestled with that because I DO believe God is good but I also see that there is so much suffering in the world. How does that all make sense? Why couldn’t He just stop things as it were happening?

I didn’t fully begin to understand the two seemingly opposite things were connected until I started to care more about the people who were broken and desolate and as I began to learn more of God’s heart for the world and for the broken people. Reading Genesis 1:26-28 was a game changer for me. Through reading those few verses in Genesis, I was really convicted about a few things:

Then God said “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created  man in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

  1. We were made in the image of God. God actually cares about the suffering and the injustices that are happening in this world because we were made to be like Him! Just like a child is made into the image of it’s dad and mom, we too are children formed into the image of our Heavenly father. Of course He cares about us! We were made to be JUST like Him.

  2. God wants us to be fruitful! God gives us the mandate to be fruitful but He also provides a way for us. In the verse it says “God blessed them” and then He tells them to be fruitful. He genuinely cares for us and since we are made in His image He wants us to care for others also.

  3. Lastly, God chooses US to rule over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air and over ALL creation. This includes taking action when we see injustices or responding when we see suffering in this world.

One of the most monumental things that I’ve learned throughout my journey of pursuing justice is that God has had a plan from the beginning of time to use us to be a people to respond to the suffering and the injustices of the world. He doesn’t abandon us or leave us alone He chooses to use US to be the solution!
