Meena left her home in Nepal, hoping to find a job abroad that would help support her family. But upon arrival in a new country, a woman who had gained her trust drugged her and forced her into sexual slavery. For two years, Meena endured unimaginable suffering, leaving her profoundly broken and without hope. Yet, her love for her daughter kept her going, fueling her resolve to escape. With daring courage, she tied several scarves together, climbed out of a second-floor window, and made her way to safety.

Reuniting with her family in Nepal, Meena found solace and a fresh start through her newfound faith. With support from local partners, she rebuilt her life and found the strength to forgive those who had wronged her. Inspired by her rescue, Meena trained to be a border monitor, dedicated to preventing other women from suffering the same fate as the estimated 10,000 young women trafficked annually from Nepal. Tragically, in early 2015, Meena and her newborn passed away during childbirth.

This painting is a tribute to her courage and a call to end human trafficking. It honors Meena’s legacy as a voice for freedom and hope.
